Centre Civics in Girona

"Centre Civics" are the community centers in Girona.

Each centre civic publishes its activities and events on a webpage. For example, the webpage of Centre Cívic Barri Vell-Mercadal is https://web.girona.cat/ccivics/barrivell/agenda.

Centre civics have many resources (rooms, fully-equipped kitchens) but these resources are gatekept by the people who run them. If you ask to use a room there so your acting group can practice for a play, or so your band can practice music, the centre civics will probably say "NO". It helps to be an official association. They also like it when you offer to run free events or classes for the community.

Esp@is Wi-Fi

Esp@is Wi-Fi is a free public Wi-Fi network in civic centres, the Sant Narcís reading point (what is this??), and the Centre reading room (what is this??). To use Esp@is Wi-Fi, you have to register on the Esp@is Internet network (How??). If you are not registered, you can still use the WiFi, but it is limited to a maximum of 30 minutes per session.

Neighbours associations in Girona

As if the Catalans didn't control and own enough in Girona already, they also have Associació de veïns i veïnes (neighbours associations). These are buildings which host local activities and events.

They will let you hold your own events there but only if you "provide something in return", like free classes to all the people in the neighbourhood.

Centro Cultural de la Mercè

Auditori de La Mercè

Centro Cultural de la Mercè is the home of the Municipal School of Art and the Municipal School of Humanities, and serves as a hub for artists. They have:

• an auditorium ("Auditori de La Mercè")
• workshops equipped for things like painting, ceramics, sculpture, etc.
• a patio ("el Claustre")
• various meeting rooms
• a cafe

• Espai Fundació "la Caixa" Girona is a building with free facilities and activities for old people. Like other community centres, it closes in August.
