Girona Airport
Girona's airport is called Girona-Costa Brava Airport. It's about 10 km from Girona.
Departures[edit]
Getting from Girona to Girona airport[edit]
Taxi to Girona airport[edit]
A taxi from Girona to Girona Airport is €25–30. You can get a taxi outside the bus station or you can order one by calling one of Girona's taxi companies.
Bus to Girona airport[edit]
Sagalés operates bus line 607, which connects Girona centre to Girona airport. Go to Estación d'Autobuses de Girona (Girona bus station), which is in Plaça de Espanya. Take the escalators or lift down to the basement to find the bus station. The ticket to get to Girona Airport is called the T1. One ticket costs €2.75.[1]
Sagalés also operates bus line 604, which connects Girona centre to Barcelona airport, but also stops at Girona airport along the way.[2]
You can buy tickets:
- from the bus driver (accepts cash only – there is an ATM near the ticket counters if you need cash quickly)
- from the Sagalés bus counter (accepts card and cash)
- using the Sagalés app
The bus generally leaves on time. Buses run every hour, on the hour. The first bus is at 4 AM and the last bus is at midnight.[3] The journey is around 30 minutes.

Car drop-off[edit]
Car drop off at Girona airport is easy. You can pretty much drive right up to the front doors of the airport. There is no drop-off charge. Technically, you only have 5 minutes to drop someone off but there seems to be no one enforcing this.
Inside Girona airport[edit]
Girona airport is small and straightforward. Check-in desks are on the ground floor. Security is upstairs, which you can reach by escalator or lift. Security is usually quick, with little to no queue. The metal detectors sometimes trigger randomly; if this happens, staff will swab your hands and luggage to test for explosive residues.
The departure lounge at Girona Airport is split into three areas, informally called Central, South, and North.
- Central is the part you start in. There is a WHSmith, an Ale-Hop, free arcade games (sometimes the buttons don’t work), and an outdoor terrace with a bar and snacks.
- South is separated from the others by passport control, which was introduced after Brexit for UK flights. Once you go through, you usually can’t return, so visit the Central and North shops first if you want to. South has a café called Como (prices so extortionate, they make you say “¿Cómo?”), a terrace with no shade and a giant chessboard, and a small indoor playground.
- North has a Burger King and an outdoor terrace.
Each area of the airport has toilets with free water fountains outside, plus free charging stations.
Arrivals[edit]
Getting from Girona airport to Girona[edit]

There are two ways to get from Girona airport to Girona: bus (€2.75) or taxi (€25–30).
Taxi from Girona airport to Girona[edit]
A taxi from Girona airport to Girona is €25–30. The taxi rank is just outside the arrivals terminal. Often, there'll be a queue. Tip: Ask people in the queue if they're also going to Girona and if they want to share a taxi with you. That way you can split the taxi cost with other people.
Bus from Girona airport to Girona[edit]
Sagalés operates bus line 607, which connects Girona airport to Girona centre. The ticket costs €2.75.[4]
Two options to buy the ticket:
- You can buy the ticket on the bus, but only by card, not cash.
- There is a ticket counter at the bus station where you can pay by card or cash.
If you have suitcases, make sure to put them in the storage compartment under the bus, because drivers don’t allow you to bring your suitcase on the bus with you.
The buses are usually equipped with a TV screen displaying the next stops and the time it will take to reach the stops. If the screen says 607 Girona you’re on the right bus.
There are no toilets on the bus.
The bus makes various stops before reaching Girona Bus Station. The journey takes around 30 minutes.
First the bus takes the N-11 road which drives past car showrooms, billboards (often faded, peeling, and weather-beaten), fields of dying yellow grass, and furniture warehouses (how many sofas and mattresses do people in Girona need??). The bus makes a penultimate stop at the huge white Clinica Girona then drives into Girona proper, with tall apartment buildings, graffit, parks, tree-lined streets, and then dives into the dark underground cavern of Girona bus station, swings around, and stops at the very end of the station. Welcome to Girona! Follow everyone else to the sortida (exit). You will need to take the escalators or lift up to reach the exit. The exit leaves you in Parc Central (Central Park), which seems like an ironic joke, because the park is nothing like New York’s Central Park, it’s just grass.
The station is a 15 minute walk to el Barri Vell, which we assume is where you’re going, because it’s the place everyone wants to go.
Getting from Girona airport to Barcelona[edit]
Girona Airport is poorly connected to Barcelona compared to Girona city. There is no train station at Girona Airport that can take you to Barcelona, for example. The fastest option is to take a taxi from Girona Airport to Girona, and then the high-speed AVE train to Barcelona.
Bus[edit]
The main direct option is the Sagales shuttle bus. It runs on a fixed daily schedule. Frequency is limited and journey times are relatively long.
Train[edit]
An indirect but fast option is bus/taxi + train. You first have to take a local bus (L028, run by TEISA) from the airport to Girona train station. The journey time is approx. 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a taxi to Girona for €25.
Then, from Girona train station, you can take:
- a high-speed AVE train (fastest option)
- or a regional train (slower but cheaper)
This option is often faster overall than the direct shuttle bus due to high-speed rail.
Other options[edit]
- BlaBlaBus (by BlaBlaCar) operates buses between Girona city and Barcelona. It is not always clear whether these buses stop at the airport. Services may be more frequent, but are usually slower than trains.
- Rideshare companies like GetRide and BlaBlaCar might offer rides
