The Girona Buddies hiking community is a free WhatsApp community for people in Girona. They organise their hikes democratically: every month, anyone can suggest a hike, and then a vote is held to choose the date and hike. Members are also welcome to use the community to organise their own hikes.
It follows the same principles as the wider Girona Buddies community: free participation, open access, and a focus on social connection.
Girona Buddies began in February 2024 as an informal WhatsApp group for newcomers in Girona. As Girona Buddies grew, subgroups were created around specific interests, including hiking. The hiking group became one of the most active subgroups, so the leader of Girona Buddies, Paul, turned it into its WhatsApp community.

FreeAdventour is a reliable hiking company that gives hikes around Girona’s coastline and mountains. The company is run by Alex Camps Prat, who created it in 2022. "Free" is a bit misleading because at the end of each hike, you are pressured/encouraged to donate the hike guide. (Alex charges the guides €3 per person who came).
Most hikes are in Catalan or Spanish, so if you look at the website in English, it will show a list of old hikes. You have to look at the website in Catalan or Spanish instead to see upcoming hikes.
Anem a Caminar[edit]
Catalan group for hiking in Catalonia. Their Facebook group has almost 200,000 people (!!!) but the vast majority of these don't seem to participate.

They make a new WhatsApp group for each hike.
Rius i Corriols[edit]
Xavier Bosch ("Xavi") runs a WhatsApp community called Més Aventura. In the community, there are around 10 subgroups, including a hiking subgroup called Rius i Corriols which has 727 members.
Caminada de Eixample[edit]
A hiking group organised by Jose Lluis.[1] They hike on Tuesdays and Sundays.[2] Everything is organised in a WhatsApp group.[3] They don't have Instagram.[4] Extremely hard to find any information online about them.
Adac Ateneu[edit]
Adac Ateneu organises hikes. See their Instagram at @ateneu.cultural.girona. They always include the Catalan independence flag in their group photos. We don't know how to find their upcoming hikes.
