Learning languages in Girona

From Guide to Girona

The main language in Girona is Catalan, followed by Spanish and English. Locals speak both Catalan and Spanish, but it's a good idea to learn Catalan to integrate better.

One-on-one language exchanges[edit]

Group language exchanges[edit]

  • Girona International sometimes organises language exchange events. They used to be every other Thursday at 7 pm at River Girona (Carrer de la Barca 2). You get a sticker with the languages you speak and find someone who speaks the language that you want to practice. If there's another one, they (I say "they", Girona International is actually one guy called Alexey who organises everything) will post the details at https://www.instagram.com/girona_international.See Making friends in Girona for more info about Girona International.
  • Figueres Language Exchange meet every week in Figueres. Organised by a man called Ernest. There are different tables, and each table speaks a different language.[1][2]

  2. Message in the Girona Buddies volunteering group on 2025-05-26: "Maybe instead of having different hours for different groups on different days.. it could be an idea to simply have one day, one café/Parc/centre civic and different tables with the sign of the language in the middle. So people can practice different languages in one space and frustration/work to organize may be less." "The Figueres language exchange do this, same day. 'Friday' but different tables."
