Catalan bands for children[edit]
In the 70s and 80s, Catalan music for children consisted of endless boring renditions of crap traditional children’s songs sung by old men (like Xesco Boix and Àngel Daban) with acoustic guitars, like La lluna, la pruna (the moon the plum") Sol, solet (sun, little sun). Dàmaris Gelabert came along in 2001 with educational songs, like music that taught Catalan children the days of the week (Els Dies de la Setmana, 2001) and the vowels (Les Vocals, 2010).
Then in 2009, a new band came along that changed everything: El Pot Petit. They focused on fun and catchy music with stories about characters children could relate to, like the shy lion (el lleo vergonyos) and the cuc poruc (the scared worm). Els Atrapasomnis came next in 2013, which essentially copied many of the aspects of El Pot Petit, with their own characters like La Marieta Discoteca (the disco ladybird) and En Rock el Cargol (Rock the snail). In 2014, came Xiula with songs like Verdura i peix', which was not so successful. There is also another band called Ambauka.
By far, Pot Petit has had the most success, and now has several books, a TV show, and toys.
