Girona Buddies is a WhatsApp community for connecting people in Girona. One of the groups in Girona Buddies is Neurodivergents. Members meet at the Centre Civic Barri Vell twice a month to discuss their experiences of being neurodivergent.
Every third saturday morning of the month to talk in Catalan
Every second Monday evening of the month to talk in English
This group is attended by independent adults, including many who received a late diagnosis after years of being unaware they were neurodivergent. Notably, this is the only group in Girona for adults with autism or ADHD; other neurodivergent groups in Girona are for neurodivergent children or their parents.
A diagnosis is not required to join the group; anyone who identifies as being neurodivergent is welcome. Their WhatsApp group can be used to discuss autism, ADHD, BPD, unmasking, sensory needs, etc.
The group was created on 12 December 2024. On 15 November 2025, the group reached 75 members.

The Asperger-TEA del Camp de Tarragona, or Aspercamp, is a group in Tarragona (2-hour drive from Girona). They began in 2010 and are an association to help people with Asperger's syndrome and their families.[5]
Their services are mainly for children and their families. Individual and group sessions focus on cognitive-behavioral and educational interventions to strengthen communication, emotional regulation, social skills, conflict resolution, and autonomy. Specialized programs include diagnostic assessments, psychomotricity sessions for children, therapeutic leisure activities such as weekend groups and summer camps, and structured youth programs that combine therapy with real-life social and leisure experiences.[6]
Programa d’Adults Llença’t: This is for adults with Asperger’s / Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA levels 1 and 2). It combines small-group therapeutic sessions every two weeks with larger group leisure activities. The goals are to practice social and communication skills, problem-solving, independence, and to encourage social interaction in different contexts (in other words, learning how to mask 🤦).
Suport Laboral i Pre-Laboral: This provides individualized evaluation and guidance to adults entering or preparing for the job market. It includes help with job searching, training in social and communication skills, personal autonomy, and ongoing support for both the individual and the employer in ordinary workplace settings.

Bonpreu and Esclat supermarkets, with the support of the Catalan Autism Federation, have introduced “Quiet Hours” every day from 3 pm to 5 pm in all their stores.[11] The aim is to create a calmer shopping environment for people with autism and sensory sensitivity by lowering noise and light levels.[11]
Background music, audio channels, and in-store announcements are turned off.
Digital screens and play areas are closed.
Cleaning machines, warehouse doors, and pallet trucks are used less often.
Lighting intensity is reduced.
There are three Bonpreus in Girona (google "Bonpreu Girona").
Esclat is next to Leroy Merlin, which is about an hour's walk south of Girona. It's a huge shop, and they don't just sell food, they sell other things as well, from barbeques to sellotape.
Ocine Girona runs monthly “sessions relaxades” designed for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or anyone who wants a calmer cinema experience. These sessions have no adverts or trailers, keep dim ambient lighting on throughout the film, and use lower sound volume, with the freedom for viewers to get up and move around as needed. They take place
on the last Sunday of each month at 12:30 pm. The films are listed at https://www.ocinegirona.es/sessio-relaxada. All the films are kids movies though, so tough luck if you want to see a movie for adults.
Inclusive pass and calm space at Temps de Flors[edit]
From 2025, neurodivergents can receive a “inclusive visit” pass for Temps de Flors, valid for themselves and one companion.[12] The pass can be collected at Plaça dels Jurats by showing a disability card or a letter from a relevant organization.[12] Passes give priority access to indoor exhibition spaces during set hours (Weekdays: 10–11 am and 6–7 pm, Weekends: 10 am–12 pm and 5–7 pm).[12]
During Temps de Flors, there is also a calm space in the foyer of the Municipal Theatre. The space is shared with breastfeeding mothers. 😂[12]
During Les Fires de Sant Narcís (Girona’s annual town festival), several espais calmes (calm spaces) are provided. In 2025, these included quiet rooms at CaixaForum during major events, a calm area inside the Fira de Mostres at the Palau Firal, and a designated quiet section during the trobada gegantera parade on Carrer Migdia.
Les Fires, the fairground in La Devesa, also has an evening called Fires en silenci, where the fairground dims the lights and lowers the music.
During the Three Kings parade on the 5th January, a section of the parade is a designated “Calm Space,” where the parade reduces sensory stimuli for neurodivergent people.[13]
Mercat de la Devesa is also overwhelming for autistic people, with hundreds of people in close proximity to another
Les Fires is probably the worst place of all for autistic people, with loud sounds (many different loud sounds playing from different attractions at once) and thousands of people
Up until 2018, a law excluded people with certain disabilities from voting (people who courts declared legally incapacitated)[14]. This law was overturned only when the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities criticized Spain for restricting voting rights based on disability and urged legal reform.[15]
