Santa Eugènia allotments

From Guide to Girona

The hortes de Santa Eugènia (Santa Eugènia allotments) are public allotments next to the neighbourhood of Santa Eugènia. [1]

How to apply[edit]

If you're interested in a plot, contact masmarria2009@gmail.com or phone 679 750 654.[2]

To obtain a plot, you must:[1]

  • Be empadronat in Girona
  • Be over 18
  • Accept the official regulations and association statutes
  • Not already have another garden in Girona
  • Attend ecological gardening workshops (or show proof of prior training)

All plots are strictly reserved for organic horticulture. You can rent a plot for five years, renewable if no waiting list exists.[1]

Once you have a plot, you must:

  • Use your plot every season of the year, and always be growing something. If you go more than three months without using your plot, you can be kicked out[3]

History[edit]

In 2007, the Girona City Council launched a program allowing residents to rent small municipal plots for personal or leisure gardening.[1] It began with 91 plots, rented annually according to size. Over time, this expanded to 18,000 m² with 169 plots.[1]

Since 2009, management has been handled by the Association of Users of the Hortes de Santa Eugènia, under a formal agreement with the city.[1] The association assigns plots and collects an annual membership fee.[1]
