Waste and recycling in Girona

From Guide to Girona

Girona has three types of waste disposal system depending on the area:

  • Permanent smart bins
  • Temporary smart bins (in the Barri Vell)
  • Porta a porta ("door to door")

Types of bins in Girona[edit]

Permanent smart bins[edit]

Some areas of Girona have permanent contenidors intellgents (smart bins). There are three types of smart bin:

To check where specific items go, use the Catalan Government’s tool: residuonvas.cat More info: residus.gencat.cat

Temporary smart bins[edit]

Smart bin in Barri Vell

The Barri Vell has smart bins that are only there from between 8 and 10 PM. After 10 PM, trucks come to take the bins away until the next day.

Porta a porta[edit]

Emergency bins[edit]

There are also emergency bins if you need to dispose of waste outside of hours of the smart bins.[3] See Emergency waste areas
