Cafes in Girona

From Guide to Girona

The best cafes in Girona[edit]

These cafes are in order from best to least best.[1]

  1. Federal Cafe is possibly the best cafe in Girona. It's located in the Barri Vell, at the bottom of the hill leading up to the Cathedral. It has a nice floor upstairs. It opened in 2016 and is part-owned by pro cyclist Rory Sutherland.[2]
  1. La Fabrica is a cycling café in Barri Vell. It looks like a cavern inside, and the walls display cycling memorabilia. Run by Canadian former pro cyclist Christian Meier and his wife Amber Meier (@meierwife). He and his wife moved to Girona for his cycling career,[3] but became passionate about coffee, and his wife had nothing to do,[3] so they opened La Fabrica in 2014.[4] In 2016, Christian retired a year early from cycling so he could focus on La Fabrica.[5] That same year, they opened Espresso Mafia.[4] @lafabricagirona La Fabrica roasts their own coffee.[6] The food and drink there is expensive. No reservations. Try the chocolate cake. Carrer de la Llebre, 3.
  2. Idle Hands Girona. @idlehandsgirona. Plaça Bell-Lloc, 4
  3. La Comuna is a cafe in the Barri Vell. Popular with cyclists because of its proximity to bike routes. They serve food, but not alcohol. Weirdly, they have a big room for yoga, pilates, and barre (the door is next to the toilet). Carrer del Bellaire, 7, 17004 Girona
  4. Hors Categorie is a cycling cafe. It also happens to be the location of Girona Conecta meetups every other week. Carrer del Perill, 3.
  5. Espresso Mafia is by the owners of La Fabrica. They opened Espresso Mafia to have a place in Girona specialising in coffee.[7]
  6. Tramuntana is a tiny cafe next to the Eiffel bridge. The coffee is nice but the place is small, so you cannot really sit there.[8] @tramuntana_girona. Carrer de les Hortes, 2.
  7. Oniria Cafe is a hipster place[9] that specialises in coffee.[10] They roast their own coffee in Celrà, under the company name Ambient Coffee[11] (see @ambientcoffee.es)[12]. Ambient Coffee is a joint venture between Idle Hands and Oniria Cafe.[13]
  8. Hidden Coffee Roasters. Good coffee but pricey.[14] Rambla de la Llibertat, 25. https://hiddencoffeeroasters.com

Other cafes[edit]

  • Café del Parc del Migdia is a cafe within Parc del Migdia. The café has a large outdoor terrace for warm days, as well as plenty of indoor seating for cold days. There is a children’s playground next to it. Also does a buffet lunch (see Food and restaurants in Girona)
  • La Rosaleda Jardi Degustació is an outdoor café in La Devesa. At the back is a nice outdoor terrace inside La Devesa. Prices are reasonable.[15] You can book the terrace for free for private events by emailing info@larosaleda.cat.
  • La Cafeteria de La Puntual is a cafe next to the bakery by the same name. Opened recently (2025?).[16] Carrer Ramon Turró i Darder, 35.
  • Shots for coffee and brunch. Good food and not too expensive.[17] Carrer Bisbe Lorenzana, 47.
    Shots
  • Originem is a coffee shop in the Barri Vell, at the bottom of the street that leads up to the cathedral. Expensive because it's in the most touristic spot in Girona.[18]
  • Cafeteria L'Hort has a nice inner courtyard.[19] Carrer del Riu Onyar, 12.
  • Cafe Royal. Pl. de la Independència, 1.
  • PdePa is a cafe chain. Big and sometimes noisy. Order at the bar. There are three in Girona:
    • PdePÀ Claret. Rda. Sant Antoni Maria Claret, 45
    • PdePÀ Plaça Independència. Plaça Independència, 13
    • PdePÀ Pompeu Fabra. Pça. Pompeu Fabra
  • Bar Restaurant Bescuit have good sandwiches and are pretty cheap.[20] Carrer de Joan Maragall, 13.
  • Verd Coffee&Brunch has good, simple food. Try the carrot cake.[21] €10–20. Carrer de la Força, 14.
  • Pixel Cafe opened in 2025[22] and is a gaming cafe. They have games consoles and virtual reality. Their menu has chips, burgers, and other finger food. €10–20. Located in the Els Químics neighbourhood. Avenue Lluis Pericot 74.
  • La Guingueta is a snack bar in the Jardins de les Pedreres. They open Monday to Friday from 5 PM to 11 PM, and weekends for special occasions.[23] They sell beer, soft drinks, sandwiches, crisps, and chicken wings.[23] Contact 689 448 645 or guingeta21@gmail.com.[23]
  • Essenze Coffee is a generic cafe near El Parc del Migdia. The prices are pretty low (Essenze charges €1.70 for a bottle of sparkling water, for example, while PdePa charges €2.70.) There is a huge painting of Berlin on the wall for some reason. The WiFi password is ESSENZEGIRONA2019. The WiFi works well, but it's not the best place to work from because they play music, which is distracting. They have a breakfast menu until 1 PM, and they have a set lunch menu for €15.30 from 1 to 1:30 PM. In the evening, the only food they have is patates braves.
  • OhKey Cafe is across the road from Essenze Coffee. They have a set lunch menu for €19, which consists of soup, a main (a wrap, burger, or poke bowl), a dessert and a drink. Quite expensive considering it’s not even a restaurant, it’s a cafe. The name of the WiFi is OHKEY CLIENTS and the password is Ohkey@2024.
  • Selva is a cafe on Carrer Migdia. Opened by Michelle Barragan (@michelle_barragan_c) in 2022,[24] a woman from Ecuador.[25] She has a sister called Ana Belén who also works there.[25] Selva claims to be the “most tropical” place in Girona. Its menu has food influenced by South American cuisine, especially Ecuador. Notable items include empanadas de verde (fried green plantain pastries filled with cheese or shrimp), pan de yuca (cassava cheese bread), arepas, and ceviche-style fish dishes.
  • Amici is a small cafe next to Lliberia Llinguae
  • Velòdrom Odeon Girona has a cafe inside. 6 Pujada de Sant Domènec.
  • Eat Sleep Cycle. Carrer de l'Albereda, 15.
  • König is a restaurant chain but can be used as a cafe.
